Rest in Peace Ian McDonald

It is my sad duty to report the death of former Foreigner guitarist Ian McDonald who sadly passed away, aged 75, after a long battle with cancer. Ian not only played guitar on Foreigner’s more hard rocking first three albums but also contributed on keyboards, drums and vocals. Unfortunately for him, he left the band after the third album, “Head Games,” and therefore, didn’t enjoy the commercial success of “4” and “Agent Provocateur” albums. Tributes have been pouring in for Ian all day from former band mates and musicians who knew him. This is yet another tragic loss to the music world. The only thing I can do in dedication to Ian is to play their first big single, which was a cruising song for my then 16 year old self and the song I consider the hidden gem of all Foreigner songs.
Rest in peace Ian

I’m so sad to hear this, Michael! I love Foreigner and MecDonald really knew how to crank out the riffs! My favorite Foreigner songs are “Feels like the First Time,” “Dirty White Boy,” “Hot Blooded” (Now that song is the shit!), ” “Say You Will.” and “Soul Docter.” And I have the CD. “The Very Best…And Beyond” and play it often. The rockers we grew up, sadly, are dying out and I grieve. But their music lives on!

Thank you Cherie and those are all great songs, especially “Hot Blooded.” You got that right, their music will live on for a long time after we’re all gone.

The best! Foreigner was the best in the late 70s into the 80s!

Definitely, their first three albums were the best.

Did not know about this – he was great in Foreigner and King Crimson – One of my favorite albums In the court of the Crimson King – thanks for posting

No problems, he was great in both bands and I think I’ll give “Court of the Crimson King” a listen in tribute.

What another tragic loss to the music world! My dad is a casual fan of Foreigner and though, I don’t have much knowledge on them, I love that song, “Hot Blooded”! Where did I hear it from? ‘American Idol,’ of course! Rest in peace, Ian McDonald!

LOL, they actually let someone sing “Hot Blooded on American Idol? That’s a new one.

Wow, was it rocked out or did the people at American Idol try to make it more ‘audience friendly?’

Well, the guy was pretty cocky and wasn’t the best rocker from that season. I thought he did alright, but he wasn’t like wow! David Cook’s cover of Free’s “All Right Now” from that same episode was WAY better!!

Both were well done but if I was a judge, I’d have to give it to David.

See? The “Hot Blooded” performance was not that bad. I think it was his attitude that got him sent home. But yeah, glad you agree that David Cook’s performance was way better!

I was skeptical because I know what Simon Cowell can be like. “Hot Blooded” was sung well, it’s just David sung “All Right Now” better.

History has proven that Simon’s comments back then were spot on, even if they were harsh. I heard he got soft in recent years, though.
